10 Year Old Thurles Boy Fined By R.I.C. For Playing Hurling In Back Street: 

At Thurles, Co. Tipperary, Petty Court Sessions, in June 1909, a 10 year old boy was brought before the said court and charged by R.I.C. Policing Authority, with the offence of playing hurling in a Thurles back street. The boy was fined the large sum (at that time) of 10 shillings and 6 pence or fourteen days in prison.

Jersey Numbers: Numbers were introduced for the first time ever in the 1923 All Ireland Senior Hurling Final. Galway beat Limerick on the score of 7-3 to 4-5 in the final played at Croke Park on September 14, 1924.

Limerick Football History: Commercials Gaelic Football Club of Limerick City predated the foundation of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The club played a legendary match against Limeric Christian Brothers in 1883; one year before Michael Cusack and his co-founders assembled at Hayes’s Hotel, Thurles, Co. Tipperary in November 1884. Commercials are also noted as the first ever G.A.A. club to organise a special excursion train for a match.

Limerick: First All Ireland were the first ever winners of the 1887 All Ireland Senior Football Championship,beating Louth in the final at Clonskea, Dublin. The final was played on Sunday 29th April 1888 and teams were 21 aside.

Tipperary: Premier county were the first ever winners of the 1887 All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, defeating Galway in the final, played at Birr, Co. Offaly.
