Blackrock By The Sea..Still Rowing Upriver Since 1927                             It's a sport synomonous with Blackrock and maintaining the tradition is the Blackrock Rowing Club reformed in 2006 for people of the community with a passion for rowing and enjoying the magic of a healtyhy sea breeze. Blackrock Rowing Club was formed in 1927 and was the heartbeat of the parish for many years until the early 1960's. A succession of great crews represented the club with distinction for many years, resulting in Blackrock being the most successful club at the time. Great and memorable regattas were a regular feature in the first half of the 20th century on the Marina and Blackrock Rowing Club was just like the Blackrock hurlers of that generation, a much respected opponent all around the waters of the river Lee.   During hard economic times a rowing hall was built and boats were bought.  During the years that followed, the club made the tough decision to cease operations due to lack if membership. However and thankfully, in 2006 the Blackrock Rowing Club was reformed and as a result of a lot of hard work by many dedicated people, the club has really grown. In recent years new boats, oars, rowing machines and other essential equipment were purchased. Our winning track record is always evident with numerous crews having achieved,  local, county and national championship titles . The future is looking bright for our amazing club and watch this space as we recall our glorious past cruising down the Lee.   Siobhán Aherne PRO Blackrock Rowing Club
