Alan Browne: Irish Soccer International and former Ringmahon Rangers Player Now Exiled at Preston North End

Born on 15th April 1995, Irish international midfielder, 24 years old Alan Browne in the fall of 2019, has introduced himself as a very bright prospect for Ireland’s senior team and it is anticipated that Irish manager, Mick McCarthy, has finally unearthed a new midfielder with aggression, excellent work ethic and an ability to get into the box frequently, rare qualities in Irish midfielders in recent years.

Blackrock Online have noted Alan’s ascendency in 2018 and 2019 and for our soccer People of Distinction category, the name Alan Browne has arrived with great expectations for his future cross channel career. The Irish international and former Ringmahon Rangers youth player, began his career in the red/black jersey of the Dunlocha Cottages soccer team founded in 1949 and named Ringmahon Rangers.

Cork City signed Alan for their Under 19 academy prior to the start of the 2012/13 season and he made rapid progress to their senior team the following season. He was on the subs bench twice in the 2013 season against Sligo Rovers and Drogheda United, but elusive first team appearance did not happen.

However his youthful talent was noted by English club, Preston North End, playing in League One, in 2014, and they signed the former Rangers player on an 18 months contract on the 1st January. With Preston he revealed a special talent and was handed a first team jersey on the 25th March 2014, coming on as a sub against Peterborough, as Preston won 3 – 1 to make his debut a winning one. After entering the fray at 1- 1, his manger Simon Grayson admired his contribution and work ethic and Alan was now a cross channel player from Blackrock, Cork.

In 2015 Preston qualified for the League One promotion play off’s and secured a vital promotion to the Championship, with the Corkman now featuring regularly. He became a major player of the squad all through the 2017/18 season and contributed eight goals and he claimed the coveted title of the Preston North End Player Of The Year.

A reflection on Alan’s rise to prominence with Preston and Ireland and also with Cork City Under 19’s makes interesting statistics.
