Michael Morrisson of Avondale United

Michael started out his football career with Ringmahon Rangers schoolboys and after a few years went on to Avondale United. With the Dale in junior ranks he won The Presidents Cup and The Mall Tavern Cup in 1976/77.

Also in 1976/77 Dale lost to St. Marys in the A.O.H. Cup final 2 – 0; a final which required a replay that attracted a then record gate of £2,000. The match was played at Turners Cross on Friday 18th May 1977.

Michael Morrison also was honoured by the A.U.L. Representative side in 1977 whilst in 1977/78 Avondale entered The Munster Senior League and followed up in their inaugural top tier year by winning the F.A.I. Intermediate Cup beating A.I.B. Dublin 3 – 1 at St. Colman’s Park, Cobh. That historic team was captained by Michael.

Recalling a notable link, Michael Morrison’s dad, Willie, was a also player of distinction proudly wearing the Green/Gold of Blackrock FC.
